History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in the year 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. During the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the following years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
