A type of machine in the material handling business that can be used to lift and transport loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Each forklift component has a specific function. Different parts could be utilized to move the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lift and lower the load. There are different kinds of masts for raising loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is situated within the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is located within the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all located inside the cab.
Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, which are located at the rear so as to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
