A type of machine that is specifically designed to load and unload heavy, huge freight containers is referred to as a container forklift. They are utilized to transport freight off and on truck beds, trains and ships. Container forklifts are the most durable and largest kinds of forklifts made. They need to be very maneuverable on terrain which is uneven and have sufficient torque and power to safely lift bulky containers. Typically, they have heavy-duty diesel engines and big pneumatic tires.
Like all kinds of forklifts, a container forklift uses forks in order to lift the containers. Forks need to be positioned to make sure the load is secure during transport. Some container forklift models are just designed to raise the containers a few meters off the ground. Other container handlers utilize a different method for carrying containers to greater heights. A container handler utilizes an apparatus attached to the front of the vehicle to clamp down on either end of the container like jaws. The machine is counterbalanced with weights to maintain stability.
Carrying and transporting containers is the main purpose of a container forklift. Standard forklifts do not have enough reach for working in ports. The forks are rated based on the most weight they could handle. The forklift's capabilities must never be exceeded and should be posted prominently in the cockpit.
