Forklift Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts which make up a lift truck. The forklifts main parts include the frame of the truck, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a forklift has various kinds of attachments. All the parts which make up a lift truck are of equal importance since they work together to make the functions of the machinery possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is actually the forklifts metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are utilizing the machinery. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or hurt the driver. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component which the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. In order to enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments may be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common attachment is forks. What's more, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These various attachments are handy for transporting various kinds of loads.
